Dining Alone

9:37 pm

Mark Peacock over at TravelCommons posted several recommendations for dining alone while on the road, and one of his recommendations was Monk’s Cafe here in Philadelphia. I have to commend Mark on his selection. Monk’s is an excellent bar and restaurant (though a bit cramped) and has some of the best food and beer in the city. You’ve gotta try the pommes frites (french fries) if it fits into your New Year’s resolutions. Philly is a fantastic restaurant city, as our local waistlines will atest, and next week I’ll be introducting a couple of my favorites in our Philadelphia CityGuide and companion ChimpSheet. So stay tuned, and in the meantime, screw the resolution and order another Chimay Triple.

A free shuttle service has been added at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport (PHX), connecting all terminals with the city’s light rail system. The shuttle will have a daily schedule from 4am to 1am, and will be scheduled to coincide with the trains to which it’s connecting. Those trains connect to downtown Phoenix at a cost of $2.50, making it far less expensive than a taxi ride. Officials hope to eventually replace the shuttle with an automated train, connected directly to each terminal, but for the time being this is a welcomed option.
